Horses and sustainable development

The report "Horses and Sustainable Development" was first produced in 2016 to provide an overall picture of sustainability challenges linked to the horse and to highlight good examples. In 2020, a new version was developed and launched.

The horse - a caretaker of the planet?

Lövsta Future Challenge vision is to create a sustainable footprint within the equestrian sport. With a common passion for horses and sustainability five strong players started a project which landed in the publication Horses and sustainable development. It gives the reader a general idea of the challenges connected to horses in regard of sustainable development. Hopefully it’s also inspiring in changing our society and making it more sustainable in regards to our planet, humanity and our animals. With a common ambition, four strong players have once again joined forces in the development of the new version, which was launched in 2021.

We are so happy and proud to be able to present a new version of the report 'The Horse and Sustainable Development'. A lot has happened since the report was launched in 2016 and you are really inspired to see what boost the commitment to the environment and sustainability has received since then. We hope that everyone in the horse business can benefit from the knowledge and practical tips that "The Horse and Sustainability" conveys. There is really something for everyone in it.

Wa want to make the water issue visible as the ongoing climate change increases uncertainty about the availability of water at the right time and in the right amount here in Sweden as well.

The ambition is for the publication to inspire even more active consumers and companies and for collaborations on how we can have profitable and sustainable horse businesses today and in the future. The texts describe what it means to be sustainable and give tips on what steps we can take. It is important that you then choose the solutions that are best for you, your care horse, your horses and your business based on the conditions you have. Change takes place through many different steps and we can all contribute, in large or small, to creating a sustainable and prosperous world where our societies continue to develop.

The latest version of The Horse and Sustainable Development has been updated with new information, useful tips and a brand new chapter on water. The report shows which areas the horse industry needs to focus on and highlights good examples.

The new publication has been produced by HållbarHäst and has been made possible thanks to funding and collaboration with the Hästnäringen National Foundation, Lövsta Stuteri, the Swedish Equestrian Federation, Got Event and ZeroMission.
